Our Story
For over 25 years, Generation Solar has been more than just a solar energy company—we’ve been pioneers in building a sustainable, community-focused future. From installing some of Ontario’s first grid-tie solar systems to shaping Canada’s solar industry, we’ve always been ahead of the curve. But our true focus? The people and the planet.
We’ve worked alongside homeowners, businesses, and farmers to make clean energy more accessible, reliable, and impactful. With a deep connection to our community, we’ve made it our mission to lead in solar while teaching, sharing, and collaborating to ensure clean energy is within reach for everyone. We’re proud to have been part of the sustainability movement, one project at a time.
Installed the first grid-tie solar systems in Ottawa, Cobourg, and Peterborough.
Produced advanced monitoring systems to track renewable energy performance.
Helped develop Ontario's Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program, shaping the solar landscape in the province.
Held leadership roles on the Canadian Solar Industries Association Board for 7 years, contributing to the industry’s growth in Canada.
Educated future generations of solar professionals through teaching at Fleming College, Trent University, and more.

Who We Are
J.P. Pawliw P.Eng., ME
Co-Owner
JP has been in the clean energy game for over 20 years, helping homeowners, businesses, and farmers make the switch to solar. With a degree in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University and qualifications as a Professional Engineer in Ontario, licensed Journeyman Electrician, and Master Electrician, he brings both deep technical expertise and a big-picture approach to sustainable energy.
Since joining Generation Solar shortly after it’s founding, JP has been passionate about making clean energy simple and accessible. He loves educating people about their options and believes every solar install is a step toward a stronger, more sustainable community.
JP’s philosophy? Smart decisions today create a better future for everyone. Whether he’s designing a system or troubleshooting a tricky issue, he’s always focused on delivering quality, reliability, and a cleaner energy future.
Simon Boone P.Eng.
Co-Owner
Simon co-founded Generation Solar back in 1998 and has been hands-on ever since. As a Civil Engineer with experience in Local Hydro Utilities and Construction, plus years spent teaching and shaping Canada’s solar industry, he’s got the know-how to tackle any project—especially the complex ones.
Beyond solar, Simon is a lifelong problem solver, tinkerer, and environmental advocate. Whether he’s restoring old, broken things, building with reclaimed materials, or off on a canoe trip, he’s always thinking about how to do more with less.
At Generation Solar, Simon leads new solar builds and oversees maintenance and service operations. He’s not one to stand on the sidelines—if there’s a wrench to turn or an issue to fix, he’s in the thick of it.
